Day Six

Sorry I forgot to post the updated map yesterday...

Devil's Tower, WY to Jackson, MN... 583 miles...

First I'm going to start with some pictures from yesterday that we took after I posted the blog...

The mountain made me do it...

Bug City

... while watching "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"my legs got eaten by mosquitos. Even though I wore long pants, shoes, long sleeve shirt and bug spray I still ended up with 4 welts on my legs. I'm convinced they bit through my pants.

Okay... here's a riddle for you all... what sounds like rain and looks like snow when you're driving at night?

Answer: Swarms and swarms of bugs in Minnesota...

Today was a good day... we woke up early and drove to Deadwood, Crazy Horse, and Mt. Rushmore. I'm not gonna lie... I was kind of let down by Crazy Horse. $10/person and you have to pay extra to take a bus tour up to the actual sight. Oh well... it was still rather large and mostly unfinished. Mt. Rushmore was much smaller than we anticipated. I think it's because all the pictures we've seen of it only show the faces they don't show the surround mountain... but it was still be cool. Deadwood was interesting... more or less a highly commercialized Virginia City. We lost $40. Oh well... We finally got on the road at 1pm and forgot about the time change. Didn't pull into our motel until 11:15pm. All of the KOAs from here to eternity are booked up right now which is a bummer but it's nice to have our own room with a bed that doesn't creak every time you move and I don't have to take a shower with flip flops.

So fresh and so clean clean... note the large nest built behind..

Poor camera shot... I blame Cory

On the main street in Deadwood

Unbeknownst to us we walked into Kevin Costner's restaurant in Deadwood and ate there. Food was good... Irish coffee was bad...

The picture says it all...

I look like I have rabbit teeth in this picture... oh and that's Crazy Horse Memorial behind me

This is supposedly what it will look like when it's done

Attempting to look like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson... I don't think Jefferson's eyes are closed though...

Saluting the leaders of this great nation of ours

This is what we smelled all throughout SD and MN... the midwest is full of pungent animal ass stench

Around 6pm and our skin is glistening from humidity

Cute...

Ha ha ha okay so it's out of focus and hard to see but it's the best I could do with what I had...

Well it's 12:30 here and I'm tired. Cory is falling asleep next to me. He was watching me blog and correcting my typos so from here on out if you can't make sense of anything it's because he isn't watching. Anyhow, it's weird being this far from home. My mom called and it's so comforting to hear her voice... it makes me feel like everything is okay. I can't really describe what I'm feeling... mostly excitement... I can't wait to start our lives somewhere new... things are so different even where we are now. People are incredibly nice everywhere we go! I've never met more polite people. Some guy said "howdy" to Cory as he was walking past him. Very weird but I like it...

I'm excited to get our new place because eating on the road is getting old... not to mention it's making me feel like I'm packing on the pounds... ha ha ha ha ha... oh well... anyhow, I miss everyone! Hope you're enjoying the blog! Peace out from Minnesota!

Day Five...

Rock Springs, WY to Devils Tower, WY... 480 miles

The drive was good today... we drove through the middle of Wyoming which is pretty much the middle of f*&*!!@ nowhere. An interesting thing we did see was an adult bookstore in the middle of nowhere which I wish I would have been quick enough to get a pic.

The spray bottle is working well as an A/C unit.

What we learned today... don't eat at the KOA cafe. Burger prices are deceiving... $4 extra for fries.

Devil's Tower is enormous and makes me feel insignificant. It looks like something an alien plopped on the ground. KOA is showing "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" tonight at nine... so that's the plan...

The first pull over we saw in 1500 miles... yes the splotches on the picture is bug juice... enjoy!

"Children are a Gift from God"... hmm...

Must have been inspirational for Buckcherry

Cory went into a trance at lunch today and created this... I couldn't get him to stop until he was finished...

Where we are at today...

Here's a pic of our route thus far. Note the different colors to signify where we drove each day....

Fourth Day

Boise, ID to Rock Springs, WY... 482 miles...

Questions I have for the day:
1. Did Kellan Moore get drafted to the NFL?
2. Why don't they have random water parks on the side of the interstate?
3. Why don't they sell alcohol at Walmart in Wyoming?
4. Where is my razor?
5. Is there a healthy snack that is just as tasty and delicious as Cheez-Its?

What I learned for the day:
1. I'm still not a BSU fan and Kellan Moore has weird buck teeth that are unnaturally white.
2. Cory spotted a random water park that didn't look open and it made me think that was a brilliant idea... charge $5 a slide so peeps can pull over real quick and take a ride on the wild side.
3. Coors Light tastes the same everywhere.
4. I have no idea where my razor is so maybe I should take pictures of my armpits each day to record the growth. (I wish the hair on my head grew that fast.)
5. You need to bring your own linens and towels to KOA... however, they are pretty rockin places to stay... and their internet is way better than super 8.
6. I still love Cory.
7. The smell of dead animal lurking somewhere in the field nearby might just be the worst most rancid smell in the world... so I take back my earlier post on FB that said rotting potatoes are the worst smell in the world.
8. Wyoming might just be one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

Okay here's some pics and then a word from Cory!

Nothing says, "I'm a 'real man [going through a mid-life crisis]' like a motorcycle with a personal trunk and windshield..."

Mountains outside of SLC

Check out our scenery!

Again... beautiful

Mind the truck butt... they are EVERYWHERE!

There will be more pictures to come. It seems the internet has slowed and it's taking a while to upload pics. I'm guess everyone is on the same internet signal and checking their facebook. Anyhow, there are quite a few more pics to share which I will post in the early AM...

dances with terminator wolves

i awoke from my slumber---the screeching of children in a playground nearby.  it takes a second for my sense of location to locate myself, the lack of mountains in this region has diminished my ability to gauge direction.  flakes of peeled red varnish from the weathered picnic table stick to my face where my head had rest against it.  the word "fate" cut deep into the surface below my hand, a thought i had inflicted not long ago.  a gerber knife with my name engraved stands erect, stabbed into the plank an arm's length away.  my attention returns to the children playing...naive and cautious of one another.  two boys adorn ranch hats, flannel and miniature boots, the others' t's and shorts.

"we can't lasso people anymore," yells one of the boys in a hat.  the other less formal looking kids run through the gravel park seeking refuge in the play house---two worlds existing simultaneously, one growing rapidly while one diminishes.  what does it all mean?...the machine will never stop, is the terminator really a great father?  this world i observe is shifting, gusts of wind wave distant flags, black and blue skies push over the rolling dry hills.  the landscape is unfamiliar, a feeling of forgetfulness surrounds me as though i left some thing behind...strangely my bug-ridden car tells me everything i have is right here.  the gusts are gusting stronger, whispering
"where have the tatonka gone."  tatonka...ta-ton-ka

Oh look the internet works now!!!

First thing we saw in Wyoming...

This picture doesn't do it justice...

The last of the Buckbean and the first homestead!

Fourth Day

Williams, OR to Boise, ID... a little over 500 miles. The drive was pleasant... no complaints on my part. We listened to "No Country for Old Men"... it is a pretty good story but then I fell asleep when all the action began. I have purchased part one of my two part A/C system. Part one is a battery operated fan... part two will be a spray bottle. (I forgot part two when I went into Walmart.) I'm quite proud of my little system. We went to Crater Lake which is actually quite beautiful. If you've never seen it I think it's something you should see at least once.

Boise looks a lot like Reno... but minus the trashiness that Reno possesses.  However, when we pulled into our ghetto motel there was a group of whitetrash chatting and drinking beer in the parking lot which was located between the motel and texaco. My blood started to boil due to frustration with getting stuff out of the car and feeling like they were taking inventory of the stuff in our car. Speaking of the car... check it out...

It's our little nest...

Okay our internet connection is really super craptacular right now so I can't post anymore pictures... I have a lot I want to share... hopefully later on tonight I will be able to put more on. Until next time!!! Peace out!

Crater Lake

At Crater Lake... note the shadow Cory is casting on me

They still have mass amounts of snow... one of the roads is still closed due to snow...

One more at Crater Lake...

Open road...

'Merica

Okay that's all for now...
